Student's Bill Of Rights

As my student, you are entitled to my very best teaching effort. Here is a list of what you can expect from me, and what you should expect from any teacher.

  1. You have the right to a clean, safe place in which to learn.

  2. You have the right to my full and undivided attention during your lesson.

  3. You have the right to record the lesson (although this does not include the right to publish or distribute the lesson content in any format).

  4. You have the right to ask questions about what you are being taught.

  5. You have the right to know the purpose behind every exercise I assign.

  6. You have the right to measure the progress you make in your playing, and to track your progress over time to make sure you are in fact improving.

  7. You have the right to determine what style of music you play, and you will have some say in your repertoire songs.

  8. You have the right to full instructional value for your dollar, such that you get every minute of instruction you pay for.

  9. You have the right to a receipt for any and all lesson payments.

  10. If I cancel or miss a lesson for any reason, you have the right to a refund, a credit, or a make-up lesson (your choice).

  11. You have the right to learn from people besides me.

  12. You have the right to have fun with the guitar, to play material that is not related to the lessons, to perform and play for fun, to write your own songs, and to clown around and experiment with music and the guitar. Yet none of these activities should ever be confused with practice.

  13. You have the right to determine what your goals are for music and the guitar, and to receive the same level of service from me regardless of whether you intend to play professionally or as a hobby.

Please also see my Parent's Bill of Rights.

With rights come responsibilities, and I discuss your responsibilities here.
